As we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, we enter a cycle defined by bold energy, ambition, and momentum. The Fire Horse symbolises drive and intensity—qualities that inspire progress and confidence. Yet, true strength lies in balance. In this year’s red packet design, subtle hints of green, drawn from the Wood element, soften fire’s intensity—allowing ambition to unfold with calm, clarity, and purpose.
Created as a design collaboration with ZCollectiv, MǍ/RE draws inspiration from the wild mare—the quiet leader of the herd. In nature, mares guide movement toward nourishment and safety, holding the emotional intelligence of the group through calm confidence, wisdom, and trust. This innate sense of purpose, deeply embedded within equine instinct, forms the foundation of the design’s narrative.
The name MǍ/RE is a portmanteau of 马 (Mǎ), the Chinese character for horse, and mare, the female horse in English. It reflects a meeting of cultures, perspectives, and values—mirroring the collaborative spirit behind the project.
At the heart of the collection is an interlocking horse motif, symbolising continuous progress shaped by unity and shared strength. Tessellated mares move in harmony across jade-green meadows and flowing, fire-inspired forms—capturing a balance between energy and restraint, power and grace.
Rooted in Nanyang heritage, the colour palette draws from Peranakan influences, honouring cultural blending, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.
The red packet collection comes in two distinct designs, each featuring different graphic expressions of the MǍ/RE concept. Both designs are fully reversible, offering a dual-use format that allows recipients to choose their preferred look and colour pairing—adding versatility and personal expression to a traditional festive essential.
To enhance depth and tactility, hot stamping is applied to the horse motifs, allowing key elements to subtly catch the light and stand out with refined elegance. The finishing adds a quiet sense of luxury without overpowering the design—letting craftsmanship speak through detail.
Completing the collection is a custom-designed red packet folder, created to house and present the set as a cohesive piece. Thoughtfully designed, the folder elevates the gifting experience while reinforcing the narrative of care, intention, and design integrity.
